Hi Darlings, in today’s post I’m going to compare the Essence Curl & Hold VS Lash Extension Mascara.
In today’s post I want to do something different, as you may have seen I used the Essence Volume Stylist Curl & Hold (Pink tube) in all my #MakeupMondays:
- Hot Summer Night #MakeupMonday
- Veronica Lodge Inspired Look #MakeupMonday
- Golden Festival #MakeupMonday
- Everyday Summer Glow #MakeupMonday
Last weekend I was wondering around my drugstore when at the Essence counter I saw they had another version of this mascara, the Volume Stylist Lash Extension (Purple tube).
I really like Essence mascaras and since I liked the pink one so much I decided to give the purple one a try. In today’s post, I’m going to review and compare the two mascara, as they are part of the same line, to see which one will win drum roll please…
“The Battle of Mascaras”
Essence Volume & Stylist Curl and Hold
It only seems fair to start with this one since it’s the first one I bought.
I got this mascara on a whim because I liked the packaging and I needed a new mascara, little did I know, I fell in love with it.
It reminded me of the Maybelline Lash Sensational (My favourite mascara) with the pink packaging and the curvy applicator… You know, I thought it might be a dupe. (It’s not).
This mascara it’s really black, it holds a curl, it layers easily. I love the applicator, it dispenses the right amount of product, hugging the lashes and coating them evenly. It lasts all day without smudging or flaking but it’s really easy to remove at the end of the day. I find it really volumizing and curling but not really lengthening.
I think it’s quite clumping which of course it needs to be to built a lot of volume but I don’t like that you have to do at least two coats to make it look nice, with just one it looks uneven and not really black, so if I’m on a rush I can’t use this product as I need more time to build it. The formula it’s too thick for my tastes, it is so hard to use on the lower lashes. Essence mascaras usually dry quicker but for that price, I really don’t care.
Final Thoughts: I love this mascara when I take the time to build it and I love that it holds my lashes curled but I don’t like that it can get really clumpy if you are not careful. But if you are someone that likes to wear mascara on its own you will love it, I think my sister Queen will love this.
Essence Volume & Stylist Lash Extension
When I saw this mascara the other day I knew I had to buy it to compare to the pink one, then I saw Tati and Casey Holmes saying amazing things about it so I run to try it on, at 1AM, and OMG, I agree with them.
I’ve used it no stop since last Saturday, I’m obsessed with it, today I’m wearing another one and I’m so regretting the choice.
This mascara has fibres in it, you can definitely see them in the close-up shot.
I have to say, I have had the pink one for over a month so I feel the formula has thickened up a lot in this period of time, I will keep you posted on this one since it’s a more recent purchase.
It is really volumizing and lengthening, I love how black it is. I was a bit skeptical about the applicator, it has an oval shape, bigger in the middle, but it actually makes so easy to reach the tiny lashes in the corners. It looks amazing on the lower lashes as well. I already have long lashes but this gets them to another level: super long and thick they look fake. You can do just one coat and have it more natural but still looking good or do two and reach the sky. It lasted all day without smudging or flaking but it’s really easy to remove at the end of the day.
I like more liquid formulas but that’s totally personal preference, I just think this will become thicker over time. I like that it has fibres but it might be a problem if you have sensitive eyes or wear contacts as they might fall into your eyes, although it’s never happened to me. Essence mascaras usually dry quicker but for that price, I really don’t care.
Final Thoughts: I’m obsessed with this mascara, I love the way it makes my lashes, overall I have nothing bad to say about it, but if I end up changing my mind I’ll definitely update you.
Price of both: around 3,50€, can’t remember precisely.
And the winner is…. Volume Stylist Lash Extension
I think you had already guess it at this point! You can see in the pictures they are really similar but I think the right eye looks slightly better.
Have you tried this mascaras? What do you think? I really hope you guys enjoyed it, don’t forget to like, comment and share to let me know all your thoughts. Please subscribe to my social media: I am on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
