Hi Darlings, today’s post is going to be the review and swatch of the Essence Camouflage + Matt Concealer.
A couple of weeks ago I got a bunch of new releases from essence since these products are so new and essence is a bit tricky to find online I won’t be able to provide the links for you on most of these products but I’m sure you’ll be able to find in the store.
This concealer is supposed to be very high coverage (should be able to cover tattoos), matt, waterproof. I got the shade 20 Light Ivory since I like my concealer slightly lighter than my skin tone to brighten the undereye.
The shade range is pretty bad, I know essence is super affordable but it’s not fair that there are all light shades.
You should be able to find it at Ulta (although it’s not online yet) and it should cost about 4$ if you are impatient this site ships worldwide.
PACKAGING
The packaging is a thick and relatively small tube in a hard plastic material. The shade name is written on a sticker on the cup. It is really nice and sturdy, I like it.
It has a flat and pointy doe foot applicator that I love, it picks up just the right amount of product and the point makes it super easy to be precise.
EFFECT
As you can see the concealer is nice a liquidy when you first apply it. It’s really easy to blend, I use a damp sponge but your fingertip will work too, and once it sets it becomes a really nice satin finish.
I’ve been having quite a dry under eye lately and sadly this concealer grabbed to dry patches becoming quite uneven and patchy. I was able to really hydrate the area and after that, I didn’t have the same issue but if you have dry skin you are going to hate it.
LASTING POWER
I usually use a powder on top I find that with a powder it doesn’t crease on me. It will last all day long, it’s not completely waterproof (if you wet it and rub it, it will come off) but it doesn’t come off with just water so if you wet it but don’t touch it it will resist.
COVERAGE
As you can see I’m blessed with pretty light dark circles today but I have fine lines where my concealer tend to crease a lot.
This concealer has medium to full coverage, which covers my dark circles quite well but as you can see it doesn’t cover my tattoo.
On the instructions, it says that it can be layered but even with two layers my tattoo was still pretty visible.
RATINGS:
- Colour: 7/10
- Longevity: 9/10
- Application: 9/10
- Texture: 8/10
- Pigmentation: 9/10
- Packaging: 7/10
GRADE: B
I like this concealer, it has really nice coverage, it lasts all day without creasing and I love the packaging because it makes it super easy to use. That being said the shade range is terrible and I’m lucky to have a shade that works for me, plus if you have even the slightest dryness it will look terrible. So be aware of that and make sure to moisturize well beforehand.

If the range shade is terrible for you, it’s probably horrible for me! Thanks for the review!
That’s probably true, they are expanding the range I feel like but it’s definitely not enough! Thank you for reading xx
Great review! Thanks for saving us the time and money. I have dark circles, so this product would not work for me. xx ?
Thank you for reading xx
You make such a good point that makeups should come in a range of shades. We’re not all made in the same color!
That is such an important topic, it’s so not fair!
A good concealer is a mom’s best friend and this one looks amazing!
Ahahah true story xx
Great review! Thank you for sharing, I’ve only recently discovered Essence! This concealer looks like it would be great for me so I will have to check it out! x
I’m glad you found it helpful xx
Sounds like a pretty good concealer! Shame about the shade range xx
Essence has seriously the worst shade range! :/ xx
That is impressive for Essence to have such coverage. Unfortunately, I don’t use them because they don’t have my shade.
That’s the worst part of them!
I’m in the market for a good concealer. My family is doing a photoshoot soon and I need something to cover up some dark spots on my face.
This could be a great option for you!
Loved your review. I always struggle with finding the right shade for my skin and sometimes it irritates me when there is not a range to choose from!
Totally x
Wow at that price it’s worth a try! Looks like decent coverage!
It’s very nice x
This is currently one of my favourite products. I love that depending on the day (and how bad my under eye circles are) I can make the coverage heavier or lighter.
My other favorite product is the Essence colour intensifying eyeshadow base.
I’ve never tried that base, I’ll have to take a look. Thanks for the tip
From your pictures it seems this concealer has pretty good coverage. I wonder if they have my shade.
I’ve linked the product so you can check x
I have a hard time getting the correct shade so it might be hard for me to find one in this brand. Thanks for the tip!
I totally get it x
I think I have a pretty good brand right now as far as concealers, but this one seems to be really great. I love the packaging too.
It’s cute
I also have dark under eyes so this would be worth trying for me. Mine tends to crease but I’ve never thought about using a powder on top so I’ll have to try that.
Always use powder ?
I have really dark eye circles and this would not have been a great product. Thanks for sharing!
I hope you’ll love it x
I really appreciate a good concealer that does not crease. Sometimes it is such a struggle to find. I will have to try this out!!
Yep totally!
