Hi Darlings, today’s post is going to be the review and swatch of the Essence # Insta Perfect Foundation.
This new foundation looked super interesting when I saw it in the store and you know that when I see sheer coverage and matt finish I usually flip out because it’s what I look for in a foundation.
And this one was super cheap too. I mean I thought it was absolutely awesome.
The shade range, as always with essence, sucks (I mean it comes in 6 shades which is definitely an improvement for them but the darkest shade is not that dark), I have the shade 30 Funny Ivory and it’s way too light for me.
You can get it here for about 5$.
PACKAGING
The bottle is made of plastic and it is a squeezy tub.
I like the packaging, it’s definitely travel-friendly and clumsy proof. I love the more professional vibe of it.
FORMULA & COVERAGE
The formula is quite thin and runny with medium coverage. It’s very matt.
The foundation is quite hard to blend because it dries really quickly and you can’t move it or it will get really blotchy.
APPLICATION
My favourite way to apply it’s dabbing it with my fingers on the face and then blend it with a damp sponge.
EFFECT
This foundation looks so BAD on me: it grabs to dry patches, it shows so much of my texture and it enhances my pores. I really don’t think it works for my skin type.
It also transfers quite badly so if I touch my face it will come off.
LASTING POWER
This foundation lasts for 3 hours before getting shiny but it rubs off.
RATINGS:
- Colour: 5/10
- Longevity: 5/10
- Application: 6/10
- Texture: 5/10
- Pigmentation: 6/10
- Packaging: 8/10
GRADE: D
I wanted to like this foundation way more than I do but it doesn’t work for my skin type. I like the packaging and that’s about it for me, it grabs to my dry patches and it shows texture and pores plus it doesn’t last. The shade range is bad and I don’t recommend it.

Thanks for the review will stay away from it??
Thank you for reading! xx
I’m bummed this didn’t work for you! I agree that the packaging is very travel-friendly!
Thank you for rewarding, I know I was very upset xx
Aw, man! That stinks because that $5 price can’t be beat. I guess it’s true what they say – you only get what you pay for. :-/
I don’t think that is necessarily true but sometimes it really is ??
ugh too bad, I really wanted it to work cause I am looking for a good cheap foundation :/ I hope they’ll come out with more foundations with better formula!
I used to love one from them but they stopped making it ??
I’ve never tried Essence before but I can’t say I’m too surprised about the outcome. I’m usually a bit skeptical about cheap foundations because although cheap foundations have improved a lot over the years, the longevity is normally the part where it loses.
I would agree with you that it looks patchy and doesn’t do anything to improve your texture etc. I think someone would have to have normal skin type and generally good skin to pull off this foundation but otherwise I think it may still make someone’s skin look drier than it actually is unless they super moisturised their skin beforehand! x
Exactly, I have drugstore foundation that I like but since I have a bit complicated skin it’s one of the product i tent to splurge on. ?
I actually really like this one. It’s the only foundation I can wear at the moment. I have started a retinoid treatment for my acne and I am still flaking like crazy. It’s the only foundation I can wear that doesn’t make the flakes visible. Anything else makes me look awful. It does transfer a tiny bit, but if you set it a little it’s ok. I have normal to dry skin and I am really liking it. I have actually put it in a cushion compact and I apply it with a cushion puff, which makes it look very natural. It doesn’t have full coverage, but that’s great for me, because I like a medium coverage at most.
Oh that’s awesome, I love cushion foundations that’s so nifty. I think foundation is such a personal preference and honestly I’m so picky with mine. This one was quite bad on my pores as you can see from the pictures but I’m so glad it worked for you, the price is such a steal 🙂 Thank you so much for sharing your experience xx
