Hi Darlings, today’s post is going to be the review of the Essence What The Fake Mascara.
This mascara is the second one in this black hourglass-shaped range. The first one I Need A Miracle was a bit bland so I was hoping that since this contains fibres could better.
I have to say the name is adorable. Since it’s so new here I wasn’t able to find it on Ulta but the site I linked ships worldwide. Get it here for about 4,99$.
PACKAGING
The packaging reminds me of an hourglass and it’s quite a big bottle.
The brush again is made in soft bristles and oval, I usually like this shape especially for the lower lashes.
FORMULA
The formula is quite thick and very black, if you are not careful it tends to transfer on your lids when you apply it.
Since it’s already on the thicker side I can imagine it will dry out even quicker.
It contains tiny fibres that kind of freak me out because I’m always scared I’ll get them in my eyes.
EFFECT & APPLICATION
I always do two coats to get the best results.
I think this mascara too is very bland: it doesn’t do much for my lashes, it’s slightly volumizing but it doesn’t really lengthen, despite the fibres, nor I find it particularly good at holding a curl.
As you can see from the pictures the effect is simply not there, my lashes just look more black.
LASTING POWER
This mascara lasts all day on me without flaking or smudging.
I find it fairly easy to remove with micellar water, I don’t have the black halo around my eyes when I wake up.
RATING:
- Colour: 10/10
- Longevity: 10/10
- Application: 5/10
- Packaging: 7/10
- Effect: 3/10
- Formula: 5/10
GRADE: D
Sadly, I don’t like this mascara, it does nothing on my lashes apart from making them black, since the lasting power is ok I would maybe recommend it if you like a more natural mascara, my mom likes it because she’s into that look but if you want a mascara that shows up, try something else.

I think I’ve only tried one Essence mascara I’ve ever liked and even that one is just ok. Thank you for sharing an honest review. Essence has great products, but I always thought their mascaras were clumpy. I don’t like when build up accumulates around the cap.
I think there are some good gems in their mascara range but I agree, most of them are clumpy, you have to like that look
I am not familiar with this brand but this is disappointing! I don’t have very long or full lashes so I am always interested in mascaras that have fibers in them because that seems to give me some length! So sorry!
I know I was so upset!
Ugh, this is disappointing. I recently used an Ardell mascara that sounded quite similar; it was a bust.
Gosh the disappointment is real
?
It’s interesting how natural this mascara looks. I will say it doesn’t really stand out and I wouldn’t go for it either.
Yeah exactly x
Pretty useful review. It is certainly a alluring package and pricing but if it’s not effective then there is no point in investing in it!
Totally agree thank you for reading x
