Hi Darlings, today’s post is going to be the review and swatch of the Huda Beauty Ruby Obsessions Palette.
The other day when I was creating the Spring Rose Look #MakeupMonday I realised I didn’t have any red (actual reds) eyeshadows. That’s actually a shame because I love red eyeshadows, I love it with my green eyes.
In my researches I noticed there aren’t many only red eyeshadows palettes, this was the only one that I liked the shade range of so despite not being the biggest fan of Huda’s shadows, I decided to give it a go.
I didn’t have high hopes at all but my friend LP who blogs at The Newbury Girl (which I’m actually loving at the moment, so go and check her out) has recently told me that the formula of the big palettes is different from the small ones.
You can get it from sephora.com for 27$
PACKAGING
This palette comes in a plastic sleeve but doesn’t have a box, it wasn’t exactly cheap so I’m kind of upset by it.
Other than that though, I love the palette itself, I’m glad it has a gem on top rather than Huda’s eyes.
It contains 4 shimmers, 4 mattes and a satin but the individual shades don’t have a name.

PIGMENTATION & FORMULA
All the shades have a medium to high pigmentation, they are really creamy and easy to blend apart from the second to last shade which was a bit patchy. They have some fall down so I recommend doing your eyes first and then the base.
Mattes: are insanely buttery and easy to blend, which is so surprising, red eyeshadow is not usually not that easy to make.
Shimmers: are so nice and pigmented, which I was not expecting since the Mercury ones are terrible.
APPLICATION
All the shades blend easily with brushes but the shimmery ones work best if you use your fingers and you press them on otherwise you have to spend forever layering them.
It doesn’t bother me but I know some people don’t like to use fingers and this is pretty limitating.
SWATCH

LOOK

I’ve used shade #9 and #4 in the crease, shade #6 in the outer corner, shade #2 in the inner corner and shade #5 on the centre. Lastly shade #1 on the brow bone.
I’ve used shade #8 in the crease, shade #7 in the outer corner and shade #3 on the lid.
LASTING POWER
With a primer, they last about 8 hours before creasing.
RATINGS:
- Colour: 9/10
- Longevity: 9/10
- Application: 8/10
- Formula: 8/10
- Pigmentation: 8/10
- Packaging: 8/10
GRADE: A-
This palette is beautiful. I love the colour story and it really inspires me. The formula of the mattes is incredible, the shimmers require a bit of layering but they are beautiful. Overall I’m very impressed, I didn’t have high expectations but this palette is good and one that was missing in my collection.

I like these bold colors! I’m glad they last so long.
Yep that’s always great
Another palette I need! Oh, I’m going to spend so much money on makeup when I can leave the house.
Sorry not sorry! These colours would be amazing on you!
YAY! ? I’m so glad you enjoy this palette – I was really hoping you’d like it. The color range is beautiful and the looks you created really highlight the color range well!
I totally agree with you about the way the matte and shimmer shadows perform and that fingers are the best way to apply these shimmers.
I don’t mind the packaging of these palettes; but her newer obsessions palettes come in more elaborate and sturdy packaging.
Huda is currently having a sale right now ?? …. so you can guess how that went for me lol. ?
Hahahahha honestly not many of her palettes are for me but this one is so pretty!
This is so pretty! The colors look good on you. I wish I could wear glittery shades but I can’t pull it off anymore!
You just have to be careful with them but you totally can x
Wow, what amazing color! The Obsessions Palettes are bomb, bomb, bomb! I have a few color stories and all of them are just amazing quality and pigmentation.
I like the green one too but I literally never use green so I’ll skip it XD
I don’t have the Ruby one, but I have the Smokey and the Warm Brown ones. My mom has like 4 more! She loves them.
This is such a gorgeous palette! Thanks for the review. I love your rating system. You make it super easy to see your opinion and make an informed decision about the makeup!
Thank you for reading!
this is a pretty palette! i’m honestly appalled at how there are practically no red palettes LOL I do own blood sugar but I do wish there were more because I’ve always loved red shades as well. they’re just so hard to find. anyway, this palette is gorgeous and I love all the shades. I’m not a fan of hers or the brand in general I guess, but this may* be one of those palettes that I would give a try.
Actually the day I bough this I was comparing it to Blood Sugar I stared at their photos so long but then I realised that I wanted actual reds not another neutral palette with pink and reds. I don’t particularly like her and I’ll definitely buy less from her unless is a product like this palette.
that’s true, this does seem more neutral and these reds are not true* reds.
I would love to get Blood Sugar though, the shades look amazing and I know I’d use it a lot but I also am not the biggest fan of the packaging. So I’m happy with this one for now 😉
