Hi Darlings, in today’s post we are going to talk about the Best Powders For Oily & Dry Skin.
Now, I know what you are thinking, how can a powder work on both OILY and DRY skin? Because the powders I use don’t dry your skin out nor they make you oily, I can use these both in Summer and in Winter, when my skin changes according to season. That being said they work differently so I’m going to specify who should use them.
I tend to be very specific about my powders because once I buy one I tend to use until I run out. I also always use loose powders because I like to bake my concealer so it lasts all day.
I use compact powders only to carry around but I barely use mine unless is insanely hot or I’m out all day.
Powders is the only product I look at the quantity for money ratio and there are so many I wanted to try but weren’t worth the splurge.
Are you ready to find you my favourite powders for oily and dry skin?
Do we like the same powder?
First thing first, we have to figure out if we like the same powders. My ideal powder has:
- Translucent
Most of these powders are 100% transparent or almost, the colour doesn’t have to change the colour of my foundation/concealer. There’s only one that is more pigmented and I’ll explain that later.
- Light Formula
It has to be very light and finely milled.
- Work for Baking
It has to work for baking under the eye without being too dry or changing the colour of my concealer.
*Baking: (in case you don’t know what baking is): you put a lot of powder on top your concealer, let it sit (or bake) for 1 to 5 minutes and then sweep the excess. This prevents your concealer from creasing and makes it last longer.
- Poreless
My dream powder has to give me the poreless smooth look on my face.
- Long-Lasting
I don’t want my face makeup to move through the day nor I want to touch up too much so I want a powder that doesn’t disappear after two seconds.

My Experience: This is my all time favourite powder and the one I’m currently using. If you have been here for a while, you’d know this is my second pot of this powder. I love it so much, it makes the concealer last all day, it makes your face poreless and it keeps me matt without being dry. The pot itself is huge and for that price is very convenient. It lasted me for over a year of almost daily use. I also love that it has the plastic lid so your powder doesn’t fly everywhere. Side note: It has a gorgeous peach scent.
Too Faced Born This Way Ethereal Setting Powder

My Experience: I really like this powder but is not as good as the first one nor is as convenient. I like it better in the winter because is more luminous therefore it will work for dry skin too. It sets the skin beautifully and I like the packaging because again it has the plastic lid so your powder doesn’t fly everywhere.
FENTY BEAUTY Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Setting Powder

- Price: 32$

My Experience: At first, I didn’t love this powder much, but I’ve grown to love it and I finished it recently. You can’t use to bake the face because it will look cakey as hell but it looks beautiful if you use a fluffy brush. It works on every skin type since it isn’t too matte or too dry. The pot lasts for a long time, it used to come with a separate plastic cover to close the holes but mine never worked. It has a sweet scent that totally reminds me of Dior Hypnotic Poison for whatever reason.
BECCA Cosmetics Hydra-Mist Set & Refresh Powder

- Price: 39$
- Size: 10g
- Skin Type: Dry / Combo
- Shade I use: Translucent
- Shade Range: 2 Shades available
- Works for BAKING: No
- Works on the FACE: Yes
- Finish: Natural
- Lasting Power: 5 hours before I have to blot again.
- Application: On the face, I use a big fluffy brush.
- Review: Here you can see a detailed review
My Experience: This powder has the weirdest texture, it feels like water when you touch it but is dry, you need to try it for that reason alone. This powder is horrible under the eyes but it looks so good on the face I had to include it. It’s very pricey though so you might want to think this one through.
Essence My Skin Perfector Loose Fixing Powder

- Price: 5,99$
- Size: 6g
- Skin Type: Combination
- Shade I use: 20 Nude
- Shade Range: 6 Shades available
- Works for BAKING: No
- Works on the FACE: Yes
- Finish: Natural – Matte
- Lasting Power: 4 hours before I have to blot again.
- Application: On the face, I use a dense brush.
- Review: Here you can see a detailed review
My Experience: Ok, to be honest, I don’t know how this powder will work under the eyes because this shade is wayyy too dark for me but since I’ve been self tanning this Summer, I’ve been using it with a dense brush on top of primer and concealer almost like a powder foundation and I’m loving it. It makes you look poreless and it’s super affordable, so it’s an absolute steal. For being Essence it comes in a lot of shades, which is impressive. It’s quite sheer so it doesn’t have to match perfectly but it’s nice. I need to get a lighter shade to try on the under eye but I’m still loving it.
Final Considerations
I wanted to give you options because not everyone likes the same things but it’s safe to say that for me, the only powder that’s worth it is the Too Faced Peach Perfect Mattifying Setting Powder, I love it so much and after trying the others, I always come back to it. Is the one I use to compare other powders and I still haven’t found one I like more, but the others are great too.

We look for the same things in a loose powder. The Peach Perfect one stands out to me the most! I can’t believe I never got a sample of it in a subscription box.

It’s sooooo good, you’ll love it x
I’m so surprised that TF holds the top 2 spots! I’ve actually never tried their loose powders but their products tend to be hit or miss for me!
I really enjoyed the Becca Hydramist at first, but it got “dry” way too quickly for the price!
My fave is the Laura Mercier Powder, however, I want to transition away from that to use a talc-free formula! So I have the Milk Makeup setting powder on hand for whenever that day miraculously occurs lol!
Ahahah yeah at the end the Becca one dried a little but on me it worked just the same and it was when I had such a little left. With powders I tend to use one at the time so it wasn’t really a problem. Both Milk and Laura Mercier are tricky to get here so I’ve never tried either.
I have never had a loose powder, I used to use compacts because they are more travel friendly. The Too faced Peach is definitely on my list. Did you try Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder? I also read very good reviews about NYX Mineral Finishing Powder
I haven’t tried Laura Mercier because is not as easy as the other to find here. I can get it but I have to hunt it down 😂 I’ll have to try the NYX one
These are all really great suggestions! I have been on the hunt for a new powder, so I will have to try one of these
Let me know which one you’ll pick up 😊💕
I tend to avoid powder because my skin in very dry and it tends to make it crease but I’m willing to give it another try with these recommendations.
The Becca one should work on you!
I’ve been wanting to try the Fenty Beauty I hear great things about it but haven’t tried it yet.
It’s amazing!
I love how open and honest you are with reviewing the products you test! I’ll have to try the first one, it sounds amazing!
Thank you!
Omg I love the two Too Faced ones you mention, they are both truly amazing! I need to try the other ones, I think we have the same taste in powder, except that I don’t bake but well 😛.
Well, I remember getting the Peach one because of you XD so yeah we must have the same tastes. I only bake under the eyes, I like the glow everywhere else.
Sooo I haven’t used a powder in a while. But that Too Faced Peach Perfect powder has been on my radar for a while!
You’ll love it girl!
i’m not very picky when it comes to loose powders, and i hardly use them anyway, but i do like to bake under my eyes sometimes, especially in spring and summer months when i’m doing a full face, but i agree, the becca hydra mist was NOT it for baking LOL. it totally sucked. i’m glad to know it wasn’t just me. it feels really nice on the skin though.
i would also like to try the other ones too 🙂 thanks for sharing 🙂
Can you be more specific about the content of your article? After reading it, I still have some doubts. Hope you can help me. https://www.binance.com/zh-TC/register?ref=JHQQKNKN
