Hi Darlings, in today’s post we are going to talk about the Best Highlighters For All Skin Types.
I’ve started using highlighters when my skin was super oily and these are the best ones that will work even if your skin is already luminous that won’t make you look sweaty.
I have to be honest with this I always splurge when it comes to highlighters, I don’t think that affordable ones have the same quality. There’s something in the smoothness of more expensive ones I can’t find in affordable ones.
Affordable highlighters tend to sit on top of the skin and they rarely mesh with the skin the way I want.
The only exception I have is the Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder, I had the shade Blossom Glow and while I love it and it was beautiful I’d always end up reaching for other options so I gave it away. But If you don’t want to splurge you’ll love that one.
Do we like the same highlighters?
First thing first, we have to figure out if we like the same highlighters. My ideal highlighters is:
- Ivory-Pinky Tone
Sorry for all the golden highlighters lovers out there but my favourite highlighters tend to lean more towards the ivory tones, they aren’t necessarily pink but they aren’t warm toned either. I feel like those tones don’t suit me.
- Glittery Formula
I love me a glittery highlighter, I still want it to look smooth and not enhance pores but there’s something about tiny specs of glitter that make me happy.
- Smoothness
I love highlighters that mesh with the skin, they have to make you look radiant from within.
- Long-Lasting
I don’t want my face makeup to move through the day nor I want to touch up too much so I want a highlighter that doesn’t disappear after two seconds.
My Top 5 Highlighters

My Experience: This highlighter gives the prettiest wet glow, it makes the skin look like glass. It has a glittery effect but it’s very subtle. If you use a brush to apply it you’ll get glitter everywhere so use your fingers. Side note: the packaging is stunning.

My Experience: This highlighter is very fancy and the experience itself is worth the price. The formula is hard and stiff but it looks super smooth on. This one has not glittery and the formula gives a very natural glow but totally buildable. It’s expensive but you’ll also get a kabuki brush for free which is a nice touch.

My Experience: This highlighter has a very subtle glow, I love it for everyday wear because it’s more delicate than most. It will work on a lot of skin types, even on more mature skin because it’s very forgiving on the skin. It doesn’t enhance imperfections at all
Shiseido Solar Aura Dew Highlighter

My Experience: This highlighter is the one I use every day, you have seen it in countless posts in the past months. It’s not a very usual product and had I not worked at Douglas I wouldn’t have found it but my boss was obsessed with these pots so I kind of fell behind her. They come in three shades and they work on eyes and lips too. It’s very glittery but very appropriate. One of my favourite highlighters out there for sure.
FENTY BEAUTY Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter

- Price: 36$
- Size: 3.5g
- Shade: Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal (soft pearlescent sheen / supercharged pearlescent shimmer)

My Experience: I love how customizable this highlighter is, one side is more subtle while the other is quite glittery/metallic. I like to use them separately or layered. They have plenty of shades that will suit all skin tones.
Final Considerations
I love the glow highlighter gives, sometimes I even use it with zero makeup. My main tips is to splurge if you can because it will make your all look more chic rather than tacky.
It’s one of my non negotiable thing. I’d rather have one good product than 10 half decent and don’t underestimate the power of a good glowing product. It doesn’t have to be instagram worthy. You can have a subtle healthy glow too.
Let me know if you have more questions, I can totally help you to find the perfect highlighter for your needs!
And let me know your favourites, I can’t wait to expand my collection too!

I tend to go more towards the golden highlighters due to my skin complexion. I have heard good things about the Fenty highlighter but I have not tried it. I actually had an amazing one I LOVED from Mary Kay, it was a liquid highlighter it worked great with my oily skin! The DIOR Nude Glow is very pretty!
All of these come in golden shades, Fenty has some amazing ones that would be amazing on you, even the one that’s all gold I wish I could rock that one XD
I’ve never tried highlighter before. My skin is so fair, I figured I probably don’t need it.
I bet it would be beautiful on you
Someone gave me one of the Fenty highlighters and I love it. We can all use a little more sparkle in our lives!
Agree!
I have a DIOR highlighter LE from a few years ago. So good! One of my favs is Laura Mercier matte radiance baked, it so delicate but buildable. I also like my cushion highlighter form Lancome, it’s easier to use than a liquid one. The only problem with highlighters is that they last forever, for me it’s impossible to finish one! I work hard to finish my cushion, but there’s still a lot haha
The Dior one I have is the permanent version of a LE that came out a few years ago (the one with all the flowers on, if you click to see the review I’ve posted a picture of it) 😂 never tried the cushion one but I agree, I’ve been using the shiseido one since November and I’ve barely made a dent 😂
Honestly highlighter just brightens ones life. It’s just sooo pretty <3
Hahhha agree
That Dior one looks beautiful! I love highlighter but have a hard time finding one that doesn’t make my pores look too obvious!
These won’t 😉😘
Fenty beauty is my fav!!! Works with all occasions for me!
Oh yes! 😘
I always hate mentioning it BUT for affordable highlighters, I LOVE the Super Shock highlighters from CP. Depending on the shade, they give a super wet dewy glow or an ultra blinding highlight! Also, the Essence Pure Nude is so good, too! ✨
That said, I think we def have different tastes in highlighters. I do enjoy a pink highlight, but champagne is my ultimate weakness. Ugh just gimme all the champagne highlights lololol!
I struggled with the Dior highlighter though – on me it looks powdery. But maybe there is an overspray that I need to work past.
Honestly one of my all time favorite highlighters is Cookie from Benefit. It’s legit my top-rated highlighter in my whole collection. Depending on how much you apply it can either look like super glass-like or ultra blinding!
I actually wanted to include a CP one because I’ve literally almost finished it but it was from the Constellation collection (pretty sure that wasn’t the name) but it’s not available anymore! The shade was On The Cusp and I’ve used it TO DEATH!
Maybe you got a bad one? Mine definitely doesn’t look powdery.
I don’t mind champagnes but they need to be more on the cool toned side for me.
I want Cookie so badly when I run out of Hoola I’m planning on getting another palette (they are way more convenient) and Cookie needs to be in it too!
I can’t do golden highlighters either; they totally do not suit my skin tone. So everything I reach for is more on the icy/pink side. I’ve always wanted to try that Dandelion Twinkle one from Benefit, that seems like it would be right up my alley!
It’s more subtle but I love it and it smells so good! If you want the fenty one, the one with two sides, one of them is very similar to DT.
I’m definitely a more subtle highlighter girl. Which one is similar to the Benefit?
Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal, the more muted side is very similar, If you check the review I even swatches them side by side https://blushydarling.com/2018/04/18/fenty-lightning-dust-fire-crystalkillawatt-freestyle-highlighter-duo/
I love the highlighters you picked! I gravitate towards champagne shades or even more golden. It looks the most natural on my cheeks in my opinion.
Gold looks so weird on me ahah
I love a little highlighter, just a bit of shimmer and think it makes me look healthier! Great read, thank you for sharing!
Thank you 💕
