Hi Darlings, in today’s post we are going to talk about the Best Eyeshadows & Palettes for All Eye Colours.
It still surprises me that the most looked thing about eyeshadows is “best eyeshadow for blue / green / brown eyes”. There is no rule like that, all eye colours can use all eyeshadows.
Plus my eyes are grey, I don’t even fit in one of this category… But my general “rule”, for me, is don’t use eyeshadows the SAME colour as your eyes. Then again, it doesn’t mean that if you have brown eyes you can’t use brown eyeshadow because that would be crazy, you can and it will look amazing.
The only colour I rarely use is green but not because of my eye colour, more because I don’t like green on me in general.
Anyway, long story short, these eyeshadows and palettes will work for everyone, beginners and none, mature skin and younger one and definitely all eye colours.
Do we like the same eyeshadows?
First thing first, we have to figure out if we like the same eyeshadows. My ideal eyeshadow is:
- Blendable
My eyeshadows need to be easy to blend, not patchy and they don’t have to mesh together. Which means if I put on 3 shades I want you to see 3 shades. They have to be blended together seamlessly but I don’t want a muddy mess of one new colour.
This is a problem I mostly have with affordable eyeshadows, which is why there aren’t any.
- Buildable Formula
I don’t care if eyeshadows swatch perfectly and pack a punch. I actually prefer working with more sheer eyeshadows that you have to layer.
- Fall-Out
I don’t mind if an eyeshadow has a bit of a fallout because I do my eyes before my base anyway but once it’s on it has to stay on. I don’t want to have most of my eyeshadow to be on my cheeks at the end of the day.
This is especially important for glitters. I love them and I used them a lot, all the formulas I’ll recommend will be long lasting.
- Cohesiveness and Variety of Colors
This is incredibly important for palettes. I want a palette with different shades that work together. Which means I don’t want all the looks to be identical, I want to be able to create different looks that will look different but I also want the shades to work with one another cohesively.
- Long Lasting
No matter what, I always use the Nars Pro Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base. Not only it prevents creasing but the colour will look brighter and have less fallout.
The Nars primer works beautiful for oily eyelids but you can use any other primer, a cream eyeshadow or even concealer. That’s key for any professional looking look.

My Experience: The champagne shade of this line was in my Highlighters post but this one is incredible as eyeshadow. It’s a stunning, fuss-free, glittery everyday shade. This with winged eyeliner is perfect for every day. The formula feels like a cream but it’s powdery when you put it on.

It’s perfect if you are a beginner and you want to experiment with colours in a safer way. With this palette, you can create a simple neutral look and add a pop of colour. Urban Decay’s eyeshadows are some of the best to work with.
Catrice Liquid Eyeshadow Waterproof

My Experience: This is the best affordable eyeshadow you’ll ever try. It comes in multiple shades both matte and shimmer so you’ll definitely one that will work for you. Just like the Shiseido one, you can use it on its own for quick everyday looks and it will last all day. I have three shades but I’m planning to build my collection because these are a must for me. 080 Minimalist is a matte medium brown and it’s my favourite out of the ones I have.
Final Considerations on Eyeshadows & Palettes for All Eye Colours
I hope I’ve covered everything, I know most people don’t like big palettes so I’ve decided to throw some singles in the mix. I wanted to give you options for every formula.
Palettes are more convenient price wise but if you end up using only two shades you are better off with singles.
I know there are some affordable brands out there who do great eyeshadows (i.e Colourpop) but CP is not easy to get for me and overall, I’m never satisfied with affordable eyeshadows. Palettes will last you a long time anyway so the splurge will repay you in the long run.
Let me know if you have more questions, I can totally help you to find the perfect eyeshadow for your needs!
And let me know your favourites, I can’t wait to expand my collection too!

I have been wanting to get the Tati palette…You just make me want it even more! Those colors are INCREDIBLE!
It’s incredible!
I never usually do anything beyond browns and neutrals, but I would love to try that born to run palette to spice things up and have a little fun with color. It’s always good to change it up from time to time!
Agree! That palette would be perfect
these sound like such great palettes!!!!! I will have to look into them!
They are amazing!
I’m pretty sure I’ve been wearing the same colors on my eyes since high school. I’m ready to get something new!
Definitely do!
Thank you 💕
Great list! The Urban Decay palette really speaks to me – love the variety of color in there!!
It’s amazing!
Great selection here. The UD Born to Run is so good and versatile, as you say, and I really must try and use it more! I think I have to track down that Catrice shadow that you’re talking about; you know how much I love my singles!
They are so good! You’ll love it!
UD Naked is still one of my favorites. I’ve been eyeing Born to Run for a while, but I kinda have all these shades in different palettes. I agree it’s great for beginners.
My hidden gem among the eyeshadows is Illamasqua Nude Collection Unveiled Artistry Palette. It’s a warm neutral palette, the formula is ideal for me: soft, blendable, not too buttery (so zero fallout) and really good pigmentation, but not too intense.
Was so glad to see the UD Palette on this list – I feel like their shadows get way more hate than they should!
Agree and this palette really was a surprise but it’s amazing!
I STILL need to get Tati’s palette! As I mentioned on your other post I do have the Born to Run palette. I like how it’s designed to travel and give you all of the colors that you need, kind of like an all-in-one, and I’ve definitely traveled with it. The quality is there for sure.

I love the Born To Run and yes! You need Tati’s palette, it’s the best purchase of 2019 for me
