Hi Darlings, today’s post is going to be the review and swatch of the Essence Vibrant Shock Lash & Brow Mascara in the shade 01 Go Berryl.
A couple of years ago I bought the YSL Volume Effect Faux Cils in the Burgundy shade and I LOVED IT. It really made the green in my eyes pop, the problem was that mascara dried and it was unusable in less than three months. Now I know mascara is the first product to expire but HELL, that was a bit too soon for a 32$ mascara. So although I loved the effect I never repurchased it.
I don’t know about you but I really can’t afford 30$ for a mascara that I don’t use daily (not that I would pay that price for mascara anyway. My Maybelline Total Temptation works incredibly for 10$). What I’m trying to say, I’ve been looking for a good affordable burgundy mascara ever since and I can’t seem to find one.
When I saw this new Essence one at the store my heart flipped, I mean Essence mascaras are usually very nice. Long story short, I’m going to review this for you.
You can get it here for 2,29$
The packaging looks like an eyeliner, I like that it’s very tiny and skinny.
The spooly is very tiny, it’s perfect for the lower lashes.
The colour is stunning, a beautiful dark shimmery burgundy which makes it very nice for the lashes a little less for the brows.
I mean unless you have dark red hair but even, in that case, it’s too metallic to use on brows.
The formula is terrible, it’s very runny and liquidy, it takes forever to dry and you will easily find red dots all over your eyes.
Other than that it totally disappear once you put it on the lashes, you won’t even see a soft burgundy reflex.
The brush is nice but it’s too big to be precise on the brows and too small for the lashes, it takes a lot of time to get an even application.
There is no effect, it looks like you have nothing on. No volume, no length, no colour. It looks like you have wet lashes like you just washed your face or something. Overall not a cute look.
When you try to layer it becomes gloopy and clumpy in the worst way possible.
I tried with the Essence Volume Booster Lash Primer underneath and it did nothing, I also tried with black mascara but as you can imagine the black hasn’t allowed the colour to show.
On the brows it looks ok, I mean it definitely looks slightly weird but maybe if you have burgundy hair it might work but even in that case, it smudges everywhere so I wouldn’t recommend it.
Once it sets (takes forever) it lasts all day but as soon as you slightly wet your lashes or brows it will smudge and bleed.
- Colour: 7/10
- Longevity: 5/10
- Application: 5/10
- Packaging: 6/10
- Effect: 2/10
- Formula: 3/10
This product is TERRIBLE. The colour is pretty but that’s really all I like and it doesn’t even show when you apply it. The formula is bad, the effect is bad, the lasting power is bad. I don’t like it at all. It can be ok for the brows but I wouldn’t recommend it even for 3$.
