Hi Darlings, today’s post is going to be the review and swatch of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in the shade Dim Light.
These Hourglass powders are a bit of a cult but I’ve never tried them and I wanted to for years. They are so expensive so when I’ve found the mini one for 50% off on Sephora I decided to give it a go.
I mainly want to use it on my under eye because that’s the driest area of my face and powder can make it look even drier but this shouldn’t because is not 100% matt.
Anyway you can get it from Sephora for 48$ (the full size) or you can get the mini like mine for 24$.
PACKAGING
The packaging is absolutely stunning and luxurious I totally love it.
It comes with a mirror on the inside. It’s not super lightweight but it’s not heavy either and you have all the info in the back.

FORMULA
The powder is very finely milled but it’s quite stiff in the pan, it’s not too powdery and not a lot comes out to the brush.
It is completely translucent and it doesn’t leave a white cast but it gives the skin a nice sheen.
EFFECT
This powder is definitely luminous so I don’t like it on my face but it’s perfect for the under the eye. If you have oily skin you won’t like it but drier skin, yes, please.
It sets without enhancing dry patches and never looks cakey or powdery.
APPLICATION
I use a tiny brush to apply only where I need it.
LASTING POWER
On the under eye, it lasts for about 5 hours before I have to reapply it. On my face it lasts 1 hour before I look oily again (I have combo skin).
RATINGS:
- Effect: 8/10
- Longevity: 8/10
- Application: 7/10
- Formula: 7/10
- Pigmentation: 5/10
- Packaging: 9/10
GRADE: B+
This powder is perfect if you have dry skin or drier areas. It glides on and never looks powdery but it sets any cream you have underneath. Since I plan on using it only on my under eye the mini is more than enough for me but I still think is way too pricey for what it is.

I have really bad dry skin this would be perfect for me!!! I love the shimmer its so pretty!
I bet you’ll love it!
I’m always looking for a good powder. I will definitely try this brand next!
Thank you 💕
Yeah, you’re right. Even for the mini I don’t know if it’s worth the money for me.
Agree, unless your skin is very dry I wouldn’t recommend it
I’m so glad you recommend this to skin that is more dry – that would be perfect for me then because I have a hard time finding the right kind of powder for my skin. The mini would be more than enough for me as well as I agree, price wise it probably makes sense to just go with the smaller size anyway. Love the packaging as well!
Thank you for reading! I bet you’ll love it!
I do love these powders a lot, even though they are super pricey. I used to have a trio, but actually hit pan on the whole thing!
That’s amazing! I’m curious about the bronzers, I feel like that formula would be amazing
Same here!
wonderful review!! I always want to try anything by Hourglass but they are very expensive 😛 This product was actually on my wishlist but I am glad I didn’t get it cause my skin is not that dry to need it
No, I don’t think you’d like it. I kind of want to try their blushes and bronzers
same, their blushes seem amazing!!!
Agree!
I do like a luminous powder like this one. Beautiful packaging as well. Thanks for the tip
You’re welcome x
I have had Hourglass products on my wishlist for so long, and now that I know this powder is good for dry skin it’s gone higher on the list, as it can be hard to find a good powder for dry skin xx
